A true flat foot, or pes planus, is a postural deformity in which the arch of the foot collapses, with the entire sole of the foot coming into complete or near-complete contact with the ground. The inherent problem is excessive motion and instability.

A low arched functioning foot will at some point become painful either due to the innate instability associated with any flat type foot structure or often due to a myriad of compensations that the body will do in order to try maintain some level of balance.

Often the causes are hereditary, occupational or simply due to wear and tear over time whereby the foot structure simply drops or flattens with aging.

Measuring what type of flat foot you have is important, as there are varying degrees. A biomechanical assessment and an E-Gait Analysis Walkway™ System is done to measure the degree of instability after which a highly specific prescription orthotic devices can be made to balance your exact flat foot requirements.

Once balance is restored, walking and exercise will be improved and overall body posture is improved. Treating a flat type foot problem early on in ones life can often offset or prevent further biomechanical problems later in life.
